Stanford, Calif. - After the first day of the Women's ITA Northwest Regionals, senior Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) was the only singles player to go undefeated in her bracket on Oct. 17.

Twarowska powered through Stefanie Doolittle of Portland State 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the first round, and then completed an efficient 6-4, 6-4 sweep of Fresno State's Abigail Oliver to keep herself alive in Saturday play.

Sophomore Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) dropped an early 6-2, 6-1 match to Claire Soper of Saint Mary's, but is not out yet. She will test things out in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

In doubles play, Pacific had both of its teams in competition make it past the first round in sweeping fashion, but ran into some trouble in Round 2, as all four Tigers fell out of contention by being on the other side for a change. Twarowska joined with junior Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda), while Nezhura teamed up with junior Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany).

Twarowska and Nezhura will continue their play Oct. 18, in the second day of the ITA Regionals. Twarowska is still in contention for a championship, while Nezhura will seek a consolation prize.
