Pacific drops tough match to San Francisco, 3-2

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers dropped a tough five-game match to San Francisco, 3-2, on Saturday, Sept, 17. Game scores for the match were, 24-30, 22-30, 30-27, 30-20, 10-15. With the loss the Tigers fall to 5-6 on the season, while San Francisco improved to 12-2.'

Pacific dropped the first two games in the match as San Francisco hit .325 and .342 to take a 2-0 lead.

Trailing 20-17 in game three, Pacific turned the match around with five straight points, capped by an ace from senior Ashley Groothuis (Aurora, Neb.). The Tigers went on to take game three, 30-27, as the Tigers posted their highest hitting percentage of the match up to that point with a .351.

Game four saw Pacific dominate the Dons as Pacific held USF to just a .077 percentage in game four to tie the match at two games.

San Francisco, however, jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the decisive gam19 gamese five as the Dons hit an astounding .588 in game five to win the match, 3-2.

It was the first victory for the Dons in the overall series with Pacific. The Tigers stil hold an 18-1 series advantage.

Groothuis led the Tigers with 27 kills and 10 digs in the match, for her fourth double-double of the season. Senior Sidney Bennett (Louisvile, Ky.) finished with 15 kills and had a .444 hitting percentage. The Dons had five players finish with at least 10 kills, led by 23 kills from Theresa Hart. Hart also finished with a match-high .538 hitting percentage.

Pacific will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 23 as the Tigers begin Big West Conference play at UC Riverside at 7 p.m.
