
Hilbers Earns Big West Player of the Week Honor

Irvine, Calif. - After guiding the Pacific women's volleyball team to a 2-0 week in Big West conference play, including an upset win over No. 20 Cal Poly, senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) grabbed her first Big West Player of the Week accolade on Monday, Oct. 1 On Friday, Sept. 28 the Tigers swept UC Santa Barbara 3-0 earning Pacific's first home win over the Gauchos since 2001. Hilbers posted a .250 hitting percentage while also recording three aces and six total blocks (two solos and four assists). The following night, Hilbers led the Tigers to a 3-1 comeback victory over No. 20 Cal Poly. Hilbers posted a season-high 19 kills and fired a .405 clip as the Tigers earned their first win over a ranked opponent since 2004. The win also stopped Cal Poly's nine-match road winning streak in the Big West. After dropping the first game of the match against No. Cal Poly 14-30, Hilbers delivered six kills and a solo block in the pivotal 38-36 game two win over the Mustangs. For the week, she tallied 28 kills, three aces, three digs and nine total blocks, while producing a .351 hitting percentage. On the season, Johanna is currently leading the Tigers with a .333 hitting percentage and is second with 144 kill in 45 games (3.20 kpg). This week the Tigers leave the familiar confines of the Alex G. Spanos Center, where they are 4-0 this season, for road contests at UC Irvine and UC Riverside. Both contests are slated for 7:00 p.m.
