Junior Kara Uhl Earns Big West Player of the Week Honor

Irvine, Calif. - Pacific junior Kara Uhl (Cypress, Calif.) earned the Big West women's volleyball Player of the Week Award for her MVP performance last weekend at the 29th Annual Community Bankers Classic on Monday, Nov. 26.

Uhl delivered 51 kills and back-to-back double-doubles over the weekend, lifting Pacific to its third tournament championship of the season.

In the championship match of the 29th Annual Community Bankers Classic against Cincinnati on Saturday, Nov. 24, Uhl set a Pacific record for most attempts at 93, besting the mark of 92 swings set by Elsa Stegemann in 1999. Uhl's 93 attempts translated into a career-high 38 kills against the Bearcats. Kara also nabbed 11 digs, three aces and three total blocks in the Tigers' victory.

In the first match of the tournament for Pacific, Uhl posted a career-best six service aces, while tallying 13 kills and 12 digs for her first of two double-doubles over the weekend.

For the week, the tournament's most valuable player averaged 6.4 kills and 2.9 digs per game and registered a .236 hitting percentage.

Uhl earned the Tigers second Big West Player of the Week award for the 2007 season. Senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) picked up the Tigers' first accolade back on October 1.
