2008 (Freshman): As a freshman, Meara gained significant playing time as a utility player for Pacific. She appeared in all 31 contests, scoring six goals on the year. She closed out the year contributing one goal in the Tigers' last match of the season, a 10-7 loss to No. 17 UC Santa Barbara on April 25. Following the season, McCarthy earned the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-American Academic Award in the classroom. High School: McCarthy attended Suffield Academy in Suffield, Conn., where she earned four varsity letters in both swimming and water polo and was named the captain of both teams during her senior year. In addition to playing club water polo in Greenwich, Conn., and Portland, Ore., she was also a member of the New England Zone and New England Prep School Water Polo championship teams. Personal: Meara McCarthy was born in Hartford, Conn., and is the daughter of Timothy and Margaret McCarthy. In her second year at Pacific, Meara plans to major in business administration. |
